Those Aren’t Flaws, Honey.

Oh, this meat vessel. This physical sack of skin, bone, and muscle that holds our organs together. Yup, we are talkin’ BODIES! Our bodies are an absolute wonder and pure miracle of the Divine. Yet, many of us are so hard on them. We love our bodies, we hate our bodies, we mistreat them, and we desperately want more of this or less of that. We stare at our butts, hips, and faces in the mirror. We scrutinize our fine lines, cheek bones, and tummies. How often do you take a glance at yourself and think, “Damn, I got it going on!” and mean it? Our complete 100% satisfaction with our individual physical self can often be brief and fleeting. Majority of the time we are looking at what we desire to change about our appearance instead of what we cherish about it.

LET’S CALL IT OUT INTO THE OPEN; Women are told that cellulite is gross. We are also told our breasts are supposed to stay perky forever, our lips must remain plump and kissable, and we should do everything in our power to maintain wrinkle free. (*Men are not free from society pressures either, but today I am gearing this blog more towards the women.) The current beauty standard for a female is absolutely bonkers. How could one keep up with the vast amount of perspectives? Too thin. Too skinny. Too tall. Too short. Too toned. Not toned enough. We absorb these messages from peers, parents, media, and the tidal wave of advertisements found on television, radio, and your social media news feeds. How many of us run out and buy that $20 lip plumping gloss or those Yoga pants designed to “lift” our booties? Goodness!!!! Businesses sure do profit each time we decide we aren’t pretty enough.

It took 2-years of working the reception desk at a 3-story MedSpa for me to truly see what the f**k we are doing to ourselves.

Okay, quick disclaimer. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing what works best for. There is no shame or blame in your game. Below is simply my personal perspective. My feelings aren’t facts, but they are blogs. (((wink)))

Day after day, week after week, month after month, women by the hundreds would pour in to have their faces or bodies, “fixed.” One afternoon, a beautiful woman in her mid-20’s came into the Spa, inquiring about a nose job. She was seeking counsel, advice, and direction. She pointed to a slight bump at the top of her nose and proceeded to explain how much she HATED that part of her face. She didn’t feel pretty and wanted to know which doctor within our network could wave his magic wand. My heart sank. Sure, you could understand the “bump” in which she was referring to, but it was so imperfectly perfect. She was stunning. Her face was gorgeous and unique. That one flaw she harped on was a simple kink that added to her magnificence. But who is she going to believe, a part-time receptionist or half the global population that tells her otherwise?

We are told so many things over the years. Let’s start deciding what we want to tell ourselves. After all, we were also once told that if we put our tooth under our pillow at night, a fairy will replace it with money. Not everything we are taught to believe, is honest.

All bodies change with age. Start giving gratitude to those changes, considering the ability these bodies have. Think of every time your body healed itself. Cuts, Scrabs. Bruises. The common cold. Flu. Strep throat. Pink eye. Stomach virus. Or what about Surgery! Who got their tonsils out? Gallbladder out? I could continue on and on. Just look at what our bodies can do. Your wrinkles are wisdom. Every fine line teaches the world just how often you got to laugh over the years. Your scars tell your tale. Allow your skin to soften and your eyes to continue to shine. You were created for a reason, just as you are. See yourself through the eyes of God, Source, Spirit, and every Angel you know. You are stunning.

Besides, how boring if we all looked the same!
